When Does My Child Need to Start Going to the Dentist?

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), a child’s first dental appointment should take place when his or her first tooth appears, or by age one. However, many parents mistakenly believe that dental appointments at an early age are relatively unimportant, as baby teeth will fall out anyway. Your child’s adult teeth are developing underneath their baby teeth, and regular dental appointments can ensure that adult teeth come in properly, as well as avoid painful issues with baby teeth.

When you take your child to the dentist at an early age, you can make this part of their healthcare routine and can make dental visits a positive experience. You can help promote healthy habits and avoid future problems, such as cavities and gum disease, through routine preventative care.

How Often Should I Take My Child to the Dentist?

We typically recommend dental visits every six months, but we will work with your child to determine what schedule is best for his or her oral health. If your child requiresemergency dental services, contact our team for an immediate or same-day appointment.
