What Are the Different Types of Dental Bridges?
There are four main types of dental bridges:
- A traditional dental bridge is held in place by dental crowns cemented onto natural teeth on either side of the bridge. This is the most popular type of dental bridge.
- A cantilever dental bridge is held in place by a single dental crown cemented onto one natural tooth, on one side of the gap where the tooth/teeth are missing.
- A Maryland dental bridge is held into place using a metal or porcelain framework bonded onto the backs of the natural teeth on either side of the bridge.
- An implant-supported dental bridge is held into place using dental implants, which are surgically inserted into the jawbone, typically one implant per missing tooth.
